So they say preemies are susceptible to all sorts of feeding issues - Reflux, colic, gassy, etc. Now we are in the trial and error phase of figuring out which bottles will be best. Everyone has an opinion - from friends, to pediatricians to NICU nurses. In the NICU, they feed the babies with the cheapest of cheap, plastic disposable bottles - nothing fancy (a la "Dr Browns"). So, we're in the phase of figuring out what will be best for our kiddos. Dylan is our guinney pig and hopefully he'll communicate what works best for him.
We each went to see Miss Kaylan today. She's taking more milk now and having more bottle attempts. They've also lowered her oxygen some more and decreased the feed time from 90 minutes to 60 minutes. We're praying she'll be able tolerate these new changes! We expect her to be at 4 lbs by the weekend. Man, I never thought I'd see THAT day! Now she's getting a little double chin and starting to look more like Dylan did at that size. Here's a couple of pictures from today. Her leopard gown is thanks to my friend Susan (who also recently gave birth to boy/girl preemie twins). Her little girl has outgrown preemie sizes and she sent Kaylan lots of cute clothes! Thanks Suz!

What a cutie pie!! I just wish I was there to hold her--or Dylan. I miss them. Keep these pictures coming. They make our day.
She has changed so much! So cute! Is there anything specific to pray for like their eyes for one but anything else that may be a result of being premature?
Praise God! I had chills all over when you said she is expected to be 4 pounds by the weekend. How far she has come. Praying for her and for the day when she will be snuggled up with the 3 of you.
Amazing!
We use Playtex nursers. They worked really well for both girls, and it's less stuff to wash. The girls still get one bottle a week during church, and they still do great with them. They transitioned well to them after the disposable NICU nipples. (We only bottle-fed them until they learned to latch on - I hated the warm bottles, feed babies, pump, clean pump cycle - and they have nursed since then - still nursing.) I'm so proud of Kaylan for being so big!
Also, if you're still pumping, keep freezing your extra. I haven't pumped since the girls were maybe 6 months old (theyre 15 months now), and I'm still using frozen milk.
Such good news. She's adorable!
WHO is that sweet baby you took a picture of! Surely it's not Kaylan..she's sooo big! Good luck on picking bottles :)
Kaylan looks awesome!
oh yes, leopard gowns! my kind of girl! she looks so sweet....can't wait to see her again! sounds like you are doing an awesome job juggling things! we'll just call you SUPER MOM! give d & k a kiss from their favorite aunt kathy! love ya'll!
She looks great Jennifer! I feel ya, I know its hard not being able to go to the hospital on a whim. She is in the best place right now, odd as that may seem. Look how far she has come!!!
She looks so different with those lil chins! :) I can't imagine how hard it is to have your babies in two places, and have to divide your time. She's growing so fast now, it seems like. Hopefully it won't be long before they're together again. I feel like I remember the Muppets singing something about that...to YouTube!
